On November 6 Consul General Ellen Germain and Silesian University Rector Wiesław Banyś officially opened the „American Corner” in Katowice at Bankowa 14. American Corners are partnerships between the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy and local institutions. The American Corner in Katowice is run in partnership with Silesian University. The Corner provides access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book collections, on-line databases, and through a variety of programs such as public readings, films, speaker programs, workshops, meetings, and exhibits. The American Corner in Katowice is the fifth in Poland following Gdańsk, Łódź, Radom, and Wrocław.
